Rolling for Reading is the community service project of the nonprofit Skateboard Moms Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers women and girls through skateboarding and seeks to boost a love of reading in all children.
Rolling for Reading (R4R) is an all-volunteer grassroots program that seeks to better the world...one good book at a time!
Rolling for Reading volunteers load up backpacks with new and gently-used books and roll (unannounced) into parks, playgrounds and community centers in non-affluent areas to hand out books to kids in need.
Rolling for Reading also raises money for children's literacy programs through its annual Rockin' Raffle at the
Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama, the Mothers Day skateboard festival hosted by Skateboard Moms. The 2010 event will be Sunday May 9 at skateparks around the Greater LA region. Proceeds will benefit FOCAL, aka Friends of Children and Literature, an all-volunteer literacy program based at downtown LA's Central Library.
